Two SEO proposals can look remarkably similar: a technical audit, content, links, reporting, and a monthly retainer. The useful difference is often buried in what the proposal does not explain.
If you searched “SEO agency Bangkok”, many proposals you receive will follow that shape. Google’s hiring guidance is candid: a good SEO can improve visibility, but an irresponsible one can damage your site and reputation.
1. A Good Proposal Diagnoses Before It Prescribes
A list of monthly deliverables is not a strategy. It shows how busy an agency intends to be, not what it thinks is wrong.
A useful proposal should show how the agency arrived at the work, not simply how much work it plans to produce. That rarely needs a hundred-page audit. It needs reasoning about the business, its buyers, visible competitors, current performance, and the commercial goal.
A good SEO provider, Google notes, asks about your business, competitors, and customers. The same package sent to everyone who searches “SEO agency Bangkok” is a price list.
2. Bangkok Is Not Just a Location Keyword
“SEO agency Bangkok” tells you where a provider sits, not where your customers are.
They might be Thai-language searchers, English speakers in Thailand, international buyers, or regional clients across Southeast Asia. A clinic or restaurant may depend heavily on local search, where Google says results rest mainly on relevance, distance, and how well known a business is. An exporter selling into Vietnam has a different problem.
Google distinguishes between multilingual and multi-regional sites and recommends using different URLs for different language versions, with hreflang where appropriate. A credible proposal should establish which markets and languages matter before recommending any structure.
3. Ask What Will Change, and Who Will Own It
“Technical SEO” and “on-page optimisation” are labels. Ask what will change, why, who makes each change, what needs sign-off from your team or developer, and how it will be documented. Google warns against providers who won’t clearly explain their intentions, and reminds site owners they remain responsible for the actions of anyone they hire.
Access should be agreed clearly, whatever the contract model: Search Console, GA4, Google Business Profile, the CMS, dashboards, content, reporting history, and documentation. Google suggests read-only Search Console access during an initial audit. If the relationship ended next quarter, what would you still hold, and could another team take over?
4. When an Agency Says “AI SEO” or “GEO”, Ask What It Means
Many proposals that follow a search for “SEO agency Bangkok” now include AI search work. “Do you offer GEO?” is the weaker question. Ask which platforms the agency means, what it will change, what it can and cannot reliably measure, which figures are first-party platform data rather than its own methodology, and what it won’t guarantee.
Google’s June 2026 guidance on third-party tools says it doesn’t evaluate or endorse them, that they have no access to its internal ranking data, and that AEO or GEO advice should be checked against its official generative AI guidance. None of that rules out GEO. Newer services still owe you a transparent method.
5. A Credible Agency Explains What It Refuses to Do
A credible SEO agency should be able to explain what it refuses to do, not only what it sells.
Google states plainly that no one can guarantee a number-one ranking. Its spam policies cover keyword stuffing, links created mainly to manipulate rankings, and doorway pages targeting cities or regions that funnel users to one destination. Worth recalling if offered dozens of near-identical district pages.
Google doesn’t treat content as spam because AI helped produce it. Its concern is scaled content abuse: many pages created mainly to manipulate rankings, with little value to users, regardless of how they were made. The policies now also cover attempts to manipulate generative AI responses in Google Search.
Ask everyone on your “SEO agency Bangkok” shortlist where their lines are. A vague answer is still an answer.
6. Agree on Measurement Before the Work Starts
Whichever firm makes your shortlist, agree on reporting before the first monthly report arrives. Otherwise, success is defined by whatever looks good.
Before you sign, agree:
- the baseline
- what success means for this business, and which metrics show it
- what the agency can influence, and what it can’t attribute directly
- when results will be reviewed, and what would change the strategy
Google suggests asking an SEO what results to expect and when. Treat confident timelines with care: no provider controls Google’s rankings.
A search for “SEO agency Bangkok” will produce a shortlist. The stronger proposal usually explains its reasoning, its limits, and what it leaves behind.
The best SEO relationship should leave a business with more than rankings. It should leave the team with clearer data, stronger digital assets and a search strategy they actually understand.
